It is also said by the police sources that the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters extended their rally to Brooklyn Bridge, where they were ticketed and summoned for blocking the roadway. Occupy Wall Street called for 20,000 people to “flood into lower Manhattan” on 17 September and remain there for “a few months”.
Some entered the bridge’s roadway and were met by a large police presence and detained, most for disorderly conduct. Protesters banged drums and chanted, “the whole world is watching” as police moved in.
Officers cut the marchers off, plunged into the crowd, and began making arrests as marchers chanted, “Shame! Shame!”
Members of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement have vowed to stay through winter in a park near New York’s iconic financial district, where they are protesting issues including the 2008 bank bailouts, foreclosures and high unemployment in the United States.
